Measles Vaccination Drive in Pakistan

The day my newborn baby and I were discharged from the hospital, my doctor told me to get done with her the vaccinations on time as they play a vital role in the development of a child.

Healthy child is every parent’s dream. As a first time parents, we took the advice very seriously and made sure that we do not miss out on any vaccination.

However, I was beyond shocked when i hear some misconceptions regarding vaccinations. They were:

1. Vaccinations cause Autism
2. Vaccinations cause infertility

Upon asking my paediatrician, she told me that they are just myths that needs to be busted.

Anyways, just recently, i came to know that tge government has initiated a measles vaccination drive in which children of ages 9 month and 5 year are getting the shots. To my surprise, it was absolutely free of cost and was even available at Aga Khan Hospital for free, which is a blessing for parents.

Up on doing some research, i came across the pictures of EPI and Lady Health Workers who went to different schools, madarsas and sat up camps in the open across Pakistan just to make sure no child remains deprived of this vaccine.

I was absolutely amazed to see the pictures of teams traveling long distances in order to complete their duty.

Pakistan aims to eradicate measles by 2020. Considering the efforts of government, this doesn’t seem a difficult task anymore.

In this vaccination drive, more than 3.2 million children received the measles shots which is commendable. More power to our government and health ministry for ensuring the health of our children.
